Supporting schools and communities on their equity journey.

“Employee ‘Belonging’’’ Letter to the Editor, New York Times, May 29, 2023. (Scroll down through the letters). In this letter to the Editor, Regis Shields responds to a New York Times article on the workplace trend of organizations moving from concentrating on “Diversity and Inclusion” to “Diversity and Belonging.” The letter emphasizes that the terms are not interchangeable; the work of inclusion creates an environment where employees feel that they belong. (A transcript of the letter is on the News and Conferences page)
Boundless dreams await.
Student performance gaps across race, ethnicity, sex, gender, ability, language acquisition and socioeconomic status have been the target of education reform for decades. Despite well-intentioned and sizable efforts, gaps remain. At Equity Journey Partners, we believe their persistence is due in part to the lack of attention to the inequitable access to opportunities for these student populations. Scaled-up improvement approaches often address the “norm” rather than specifically addressing the intended and unintended impact of cultural, racial and other social identity group membership.
